Since
the opening Hollywood racetrack in 1938, with
many of the original shareholders at Hollywood Park
were stars, including jack warner of warner brothers.
Hollywood Park racetrack was the pioneer of the exacta
in 1971. In 1972 a $3 million expansion project
doubled the size of the Turf Club, adding a Winner's
Circle Dining Room to the Clubhouse and renovated
the park stable area.
Also
Sunday horse racing was introduced to Californians
at Hollywood Park on April 15, 1973. Hollywood
Park became the first track to average more than $4
million in daily bets in 1977 and had record
$21,287,723 wagered on 1995 Kentucky
Derby Day.
Hollywood
Park-Casino was opened on Friday, July 1, 1994.
Previously known as the Pavilion, the state-of-the-art card club/casino features pai gow, super
pan9, Mexican poker, California blackjack and
la blackjack. on Sept. 10, 1999, Churchill Downs
Incorporated closed a $140-million deal to acquire Hollywood
Park Race Track.
